History and Structure of IADRF
IADRF was founded in 2002 by Ronald E. Henderson, M.D., a longtime Birmingham, Alabama physician. He was forced into early retirement in 1994 because of the rigors of an autoimmune disease - the muscle-weakness disease known as myasthenia gravis, or MG. Birmingham, Alabama was selected as IADRF's headquarters not only because it is the home city of IADRF Founder/Chairman Dr. Henderson, but also because of its reputation as an internationally known center for medical education, health service, and health research. The core for that reputation rests with the acclaimed academic health sciences center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Future plans call for additional IADRF offices on the East Coast and West Coast.

The ongoing operations of IADRF are guided by a Board of Trustees comprised of highly respected, accomplished individuals representing diverse professions, walks of life, and geography. In addition to the grant-review expertise of a Board of Scientists, IADRF avails itself of up-to-date input from a Board of Donors that represents various types of philanthropy contributing to IADRF's funding.
